Is it a good idea to boil tap water in Cuba, let it cool down and use for washing face & rinsing mouth?

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Heading to cuba for the first time and I’m not getting any of the shots/vaccines. I don’t want traveller’s diaherra tho!

So being careful, I’m considering bringing a small plug in kettle and boil tap water in the room to use during my trip… using that water for washing face & rinsing in the morning… This can save me a couple of bucks from buying bottle water…

So, is it a good idea? Effective?

Once the water is boiled but cool down… are the bacteria still dead or only when its super hot…
Is it safe to drink like bottled water or not?

Thanks!

How can you keep a clear glass water kettle clean?

        Thursday, July 7th, 2011

For many years I had a Corning ware kettle. It would get brown inside, even though it was only used to boil water, and I used CLR mixed with hot water & that would make it white inside again. Couple of weeks ago it broke (sob) & I found it has been discontinued.

After searching for a kettle to replace it, I finally found a clear glass kettle. We have very hard water in my area & I know mineral deposits will build up & make it cloudy.

Any suggestions on how to keep it clear? Vinegar? Alcohol? Don’t know if CLR would be too harsh on the glass. I don’t have a coffee maker, but they use a glass carafe which must get stained by the coffee. If you have that, how do you keep it clean? Instructions just say use a sponge & soapy water to clean it, but that won’t help with hard mineral deposits.

I had such a hard time finding this kettle & would like advice on keeping it clear & sparkling Your help would be so appreciated.

Drinking water and beverages in Athens & Greek Island?

          Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Hi, I will be travelling to Athens & island hopping on the beautiful Greek Islands.

Just wondering if the hotels provide kettle to boil our own drinking water or can we drink directly from the tap?

Also I would like to know how much does a bottle of drinking water, a can of coke, a bottle of beer cost there?

Many thanks to those who answer:D

Baby Belling Cooker Trips the Electric Supply?

            Saturday, May 21st, 2011

I have a two ring baby belling cooker that plugs into the wall.

The oven and one of the rings work fine, but when I try to put the second ring on it trips the electric.

This knocks the kettle and computer upstairs off.

Is it safe to still use the one working ring & oven?

            Thanks,

I have crazy amounts of calcium in the water, my small tea kettle looks AWFUL and I am having a heck of a time trying to clean it out.

Its a small one and my hand really does not fit, thinking a sponge on a stick thing but the calcium is so hard to get out as it is.

I do have rock salt & can make ice to try swirling that later. wondering what you all think???
